When you purchase, the deed will transfer the property to you and the county will send you the tax bills at the property address. If for any reason, you do not receive the bill, go to the tax collectors office and they will resolve it for you.

You can pay them in lump sum with the bills come to you in the fall for the current year. But, if that is too expensive. At closing the taxes will be part of the closing statement as to value. If prorated., however, if you have an agreement with the seller that you pay no accrued taxes, and he pays for the year, then asked the closing attorney to get you the cost of taxes for city and county (if city is applicable) Then open yourself a separate checking account kinda like you would a Christmas account, if you know what I mean. and each month put in 1/12 of the total. You can get the tax and insurance combined with the loan, and it is easier to make one payment than to come up with the money for taxes and insurance separately.

I live there, just ask at the Dekalb county Tax office in Decatur. Dekalb county sends it out as two bills so you don’t have to pay it all at one time, although you can if you choose to. You can also find out from the tax office about how much the taxes will be for a year.
